FatwaRAG

Privacy policy

In short: no accounts and no question history. Your question stays with us only if you choose to share an answer or send a report, or if its summary could not be written.

Your questions

  • Your question is sent to our server so we can search for fatwas and write the summary. The AI services listed below receive the question text and the matching fatwas for this.
  • We do not store or log questions. A temporary copy (your question, language and fatwa numbers) is kept for one hour only, to finish the summary, then deleted, unless the summary could not be written: then the question, its fatwa numbers and why it failed are sent privately to the development team so the fault can be fixed, with nothing that identifies you.
  • Links to answer pages carry the question encrypted, so it does not show in the address bar, browser history or server logs.
  • We keep the result of the «is this a religious question» check for 30 days, tied to a one-way fingerprint of the question that cannot be turned back into its text.
  • The answers to the common questions on the home page are made by the same search and summary as any question, then stored so they show instantly.

Shared answers

  • Nothing is saved when you share unless you explicitly agree. Then we save the question (and follow-up, if any), its language, the fatwa numbers and the final summary on a public page anyone can reach, which may appear in search engines.
  • A shared page stays until we delete it. To have a page you shared removed, write to us from the Contact page with its link.
  • With a share we also keep a fingerprint of your connection address, made with a secret key (not the address itself), to limit how many answers one person shares per hour.

Reports and messages

  • When you send a report we save the reason, your comment, the question and summary as you saw them, the page address, your device and browser type, and the time, so we can look into the problem.
  • When you contact us we save your message, your email and your name if you gave one, so we can reply. We use them for nothing else.
  • Reports and messages stay until we delete them by hand. There is no automatic deletion.

Limits and protection

  • We limit how many questions, translations and summaries one visitor can use per hour, and set a daily cap for the whole site. This is counted with a one-way fingerprint of your connection address; the address itself is not stored, and the counters expire within hours or two days.
  • The share, report and contact forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, and the rest of the site by Cloudflare's bot protection. They process connection and device data to tell people from programs.

Usage statistics (PostHog)

  • We use PostHog to learn what gets used: which pages open, which buttons are pressed, whether results appeared or a summary failed.
  • No cookies and nothing stored in your browser: the identifier lives only in the page's memory and is gone when you close or reload the page. We do not record sessions or screens, do not capture clicks automatically, and do not build profiles of people.
  • We never send your question text, follow-up text, the text of a report or message, a name or an email. We send only things such as the language, text lengths, the number of results, fatwa numbers, and a summary's status and duration. On answer pages the question token is removed from the address before anything is sent.
  • Requests go through our own site on their way to PostHog, which may infer an approximate region. If your browser's «Do Not Track» is on, nothing is sent.

Who processes data

  • Outside AI services: they receive your question text and the matching fatwas to search, summarize and translate, under their own policies.
  • Cloudflare: bot protection and Turnstile.
  • PostHog: usage statistics, as above.
  • Hosting: the site runs on Vercel and the data server on a private server.
  • When you press «Listen» on a verse, the audio loads straight from QuranicAudio (Quran.com's audio host, quranicaudio.com), and «Search» opens Dorar (dorar.net) in a new tab; those sites then see your connection address.

Changes and contact

  • We may update this policy; the latest version is always here. For questions or removal requests, write to us from the Contact page.
